How Berghöfer became a market leader

The company has been family-owned for four generations since 1928, creating an ideal blend of years of experience and a drive for future challenges. This is also reflected in the company’s rapid growth.

1928

On July 1, 1928, Carl Berghöfer Senior founded the family business. He was 46 years old at the time and had the idea of building a customer base in the Sauerland region as an independent sales representative for various industrial companies.

1937

In 1937, Carl Berghöfer Senior acquired the company's first property in Lüdenscheid. From then on, the company also had the opportunity to sell products from its inventory.

1967

After Carl Berghöfer Jr., Kurt-Martin Berghöfer joined the company in 1967 and took over the commercial agency of a major metal goods manufacturer. This step marked our entry into the world of copper semi-finished products. With the introduction of copper semi-finished products, a larger warehouse became necessary, which is why the company headquarters was relocated to Talstraße 98 on April 1, 1972.

1989

When the last industrial agency expired on December 31, 1989, Carl and Kurt-Martin Berghöfer founded what is now Carl Berghöfer GmbH as an independent metal trading company.

1998

In 1998, Kurt-Martin Berghöfer's son and daughter-in-law joined the company and, due to its rapid growth, have relocated twice since then. From the Nottebohmstraße location (2004-2016) to Rosmart (2016 to present).

2016 until today

Carl Berghöfer GmbH's slitting center in Altena was inaugurated in June 2016. The hall extension in 2020 increased the production area to 3,600 square meters. Since then, the plant capacity and production range have been continuously expanded.
